CPAP/BiPAP Therapy

Whether due to an obstruction in the throat or a failure of the brain to send appropriate signals to the muscles, Sleep Apnea is a common sleep disorder that involves the failure to breathe during the sleep cycle.   Each and every time an apnea event occurs, the brain must arouse from the sleep state in order to resume normal breathing patterns. This often results in low-quality sleep and/or receiving fewer hours of sleep causing one to have difficulty focusing at work or general daily activities.   Approximately 42 million American adults have a sleep-disorder involving their breathing.   It has been estimated that 1 in 5 adults suffer from mild obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and 1 in 15 suffer from moderate to severe OSA.

CPAP/BiPAP Therapy provides an excellent treatment option for people who experience obstructive sleep apnea.  At One Step Ahead & HME we strive to provide the best quality machines complete with excellent warranties, and the most current supplies needed for your machine.

Qualification Process

Generally most insurance policies will cover CPAP/BiPAP therapy as long as the guidelines are met.  To determine the extent of your OSA and the best treatment process, you will most likely need at least one sleep study, performed in a lab or at home.  Once we have received the documentation required by your insurance, we will get in touch with you to schedule an appointment with our Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist to schedule your setup.  You and the Therapist will discuss mask preference,  supply replacement, as well as usage and maintenance,  and the usage compliance required by your insurance company.   If there will be any out-of-pocket expenses it will be discussed with you during this setup process.   If you do not have insurance or if you have a high deductible plan, we do offer competitive cash prices for equipment and supplies. Give us a call today for more information or to answer any questions you have.

Resupply Process

Once you have completed your set-up and instruction for your CPAP/BiPAP and have begun using it, you will periodically need to replace your supplies as they will become damaged, worn, dirty, or discolored.  The insurance companies have a suggested schedule of the proper time to replace your supplies.  This is done in order for your system to be effective and hygienic.   We offer an interactive automated or a live call system from a One Step Ahead & HME employee. These calls are put in place to contact you when you are due for a supply replacement.  We will compile your order and have it ready to pick up conveniently in our store if you are eligible and ready to replace supplies. We may also be offering drop shipments of your supplies to your home doorstep coming in the near future.   Contact us today if you are interested in this service.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is a prescription required?

CPAP/BiPAP therapy is an FDA restricted therapy requiring a prescription by a medical doctor before it can be provided. Each machine requires settings that are set specifically to each individual patient and must be prescribed by your physician. Without these settings, the machine will not work properly.

  • How do I know if I qualify for my insurance to cover my CPAP/BiPAP therapy?

Insurance companies have very clear  guidelines that must be met for you to qualify for this treatment.   Each insurance carrier may have differences in their required guidelines. During the setup process, we will discuss what must be done to qualify you to be set up under insurance guidelines.

  • Will I have any out of pocket expenses?

CPAP/BiPAP therapy is an expensive treatment and we understand your concerns regarding your out of pocket expenses.  Insurance claims are subject to deductibles and co-pays.  We are happy to discuss your estimated out of pocket expense during set up. In these instances when insurance companies do not cover the service or a deductible requirement is very high , we offer excellent cash prices for your convenience, with a free set up and supplies. Payment plans are also available.  Call us today!

  • My doctor is requesting a compliance download. What do I need to do?

Your doctor will often request a compliance download during follow up visits to confirm you are using and benefitting from the treatment.  When you need a compliance download, simply call us and we will provide the report of your usage to your doctor.  For a small fee we do  offer compliance downloads for those who did not receive their machine or supplies from One Step Ahead & HME .
