Mastectomy fitting services and more

We provide mastectomy fitter services for you. We provide fitted silicone forms, accessories, and post-surgery garments. Not only that, but we will work with you to achieve the best solution for you.  With eligibility, insurance companies will cover items such as fitted silicone forms and accessories. Please check with us to confirm coverage options before purchase.

Around six to eight weeks after breast surgery it will be time to visit the post-mastectomy fitter.  Most women's incision should be healed by this time and should be able to wear a weighted prosthesis at this time.  Women who experienced breast conserving surgery will also benefit from a post-mastectomy fitting as there are partial prostheses available to help fill in the missing portion of their breast and provide symmetry. Medicare and most private insurance plans have coverage for breast prostheses and bras. To confirm your coverage options, call the number on your insurance card and confirm coverages. In some cases policies have network provider restrictions  that can influence coverage costs.

Who does the fitting?

Fitters are certified through the American Board of Certification and maintain at least a minimum requirement of continuing education to update knowledge of technique, new products, and insurance requirements. The fitters are also trained by manufacturer based education programs, to fit bras and prostheses. They are taught which products do best with different surgery types, and how to handle special circumstances.

What to ask your Fitter
  • How long will my first fitting take?
  • Do you have sufficient inventory available to meet my particular needs?
  • Are you in network with my insurance?
  • Will I have any out of pocket expenses?

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is a prescription required?

You will need a prescription from your doctor if you are seeking insurance reimbursement.

  • What should I wear for a fitting?

Comfortable clothes and a blouse that is easily removed is suggested. There will be  privacy wraps provided during the fitting.

  • What brands do you carry?

We are currently dealers for Amoena, Trulife, and Nearly Me post-mastectomy products.

  • What is the post-mastectomy fitting process?

The Certified Fitter will measure and evaluate the surgical area for pressure marks, scaring and sensitivity. The patient and fitter will discuss all appropriate treatment options including styles, shapes and materials as well as the patient’s goals and expectations. Care and use of all items will be discussed and all Instructions will be provided during the fitting.

  • Will the prosthesis be noticeable?

While no fit can replace the removed breast, a well-fitting external breast prosthesis should be fairly unnoticeable and provide physical and visual symmetry.

  • What happens if my body size changes due to weight loss or weight gain?

If there is a change in body size due to reduction of swelling, changes in post-surgical swelling, torso lymphedema, weight change, additional surgery, or any other changes, a re-evaluation of the fit of the prosthesis, garments, and accessories will be necessary.
